Path Forward - Skills-building Electives

At Hila, we aim to empower our students beyond the basic curriculum by offering "path forward" opportunities to support them in taking next steps in online education and career development.   Current skills-building electives include: 

Media Skills: Introduction to Photography 

Led by an internationally exhibited fine arts photographer, this hands-on course invites students to explore photography as a powerful tool for storytelling and self-expression. Participants gain both technical skills and a deeper understanding of visual narratives. 

Media Skills: Videography and Editing

In Fall 2025, our photography students began an inspiring new videography and storytelling course led by RefocusMedia, with whom we have a partnership.  The course empowers young creators through visual arts. Each week, students learn how to use their phones to capture light, movement and emotions, transforming everyday scenes from their homes into short, vibrant videos. These classes not only build technical skills but also confidence in self-expression. 

IT Skills:  Coursera online platform

In partnership with a sister NGO in Paris, we offer students access to IT courses through Coursera, a global online learning platform offering certifications and degrees across a range of subjects. An IT guidance counselor supports students in selecting courses and successfully completing certifications in coding and technology-related fields.

We partnered with Code To Inspire to provide students with access to training in graphic design, Python programming, and web development. We also welcomed several Code To Inspire students into Hila Initiative's English learning program, helping them strengthen the communication skills needed for further education and employment opportunities.
